The JoJo D'Occhio Foundation was founded not long after the death of Joseph "JoJo" D'Occhio III. JoJo was killed in a tragic accident in August of 2008. This horrible incident left 5 D'Occhio children without their oldest brother. The premise behind the JoJo D'Occhio Foundation was a suggestion made by Ninamari Geena D'Occhio (JoJo's second sister out of four sisters) and later perpetuated by Adriana Celeste (Marigliano), Vincent Aldo, Angela Rita and Vienna Rose D'Occhio. JoJo's siblings, as well as other family members and friends, who felt compelled to preserve his spirit in this endeavor. This loyal group of people came together to organize events such as:
- The JoJo Motorcycle Run & Tree Planting
- Dedication of a horse race at Delaware Park
- The JoJo Iron Man Street Hockey Tournament Benefit
- The Evening of Entertainment at The University of Delaware
- The JoJo D'Occhio 5K Walk/Run
The funds raised at these and future events are dedicated to scholarships for education, a scholarship to attend Comfort Zone Camp, activities, materials and, most importantly, to raise public awareness of the impact such an experience can make on a young person's life. We hope to make a positive difference in the healing of children and young adults when they lose their brother or sister.
